Bluesky Scheduler: How to Schedule Bluesky Posts

Postel schedules Bluesky posts and threads: connect your account with an app password, write the post, and pick when it goes out. The same editor posts to X, LinkedIn and Mastodon, with a version of the post fitted to each network, so one idea can go everywhere you post without copying and pasting.

A 380-character post on Bluesky, where the limit is 300. Postel splits it at a paragraph into a thread of 2, and the preview shows each part before you schedule.

Can you schedule posts on Bluesky?

Yes, with a tool that publishes through Bluesky's API. You connect the tool with your handle and an app password, a separate password Bluesky lets you create and revoke for each app. The tool then publishes your post at the time you picked.

Postel is one of those tools, and Bluesky is on every plan, including Starter.

What Postel does on Bluesky

  • Posts and threads. Write a single post or a thread. Text that runs past 300 characters is split into a thread at paragraphs, then sentences, and the preview shows each part.
  • Counts characters the way Bluesky does. Bluesky's limit is 300 characters, and an emoji counts as one. The editor counts the same way, so a post that fits in Postel fits on Bluesky.
  • Images. Up to 4 images per post, 1 MB or less each.
  • Scheduling. Pick a date and time, or publish now. Scheduled posts sit in the calendar next to the rest of your week.
  • Analytics. Likes, replies, reposts, quotes, saves and followers for the posts Postel published. Bluesky doesn't report views, so Postel doesn't show any. To look up any public Bluesky account, try the free Bluesky analytics tool.
  • Writing help. Ask Postel, the chat beside every page, can draft and schedule Bluesky posts, and so can Postel's MCP server in Claude and ChatGPT.

What it doesn't do on Bluesky yet: a first comment under the post, video, and the drafts Postel writes for you in For You and Plan next week, which cover X and LinkedIn for now.

How to schedule Bluesky posts with Postel

Step 1: Create an app password in Bluesky

In the Bluesky app, open Settings > Privacy and security > App passwords and add one named "Postel". Copy it. Your main Bluesky password never leaves Bluesky.

Step 2: Connect Bluesky in Postel

In Postel, open Settings > Channels > Add a channel, choose Bluesky, and enter your handle and the app password.

Step 3: Write the post

Open the editor and select the Bluesky chip above it, along with any other channel you want the post on. Write once. If the text is too long for Bluesky, Postel splits it into a thread, and the Bluesky preview shows exactly what will go out.

Step 4: Schedule it

Click Schedule, pick the date and time, and confirm. The confirm step lists every channel the post goes to and whether each one uses the shared text or its own.

Post to Bluesky and other networks

Pick Bluesky and X, LinkedIn or Mastodon in the row of channels above the editor, write once, and Postel fits the text to each network: a thread where threads exist, its own wording where you want it. How it works: cross-posting tool.

Who Postel is for

A good fit if you:

  • Post the same ideas on Bluesky and on X, LinkedIn or Mastodon, and want one place to write and schedule them.
  • Want help adapting posts for Bluesky, and drafts in your voice for X and LinkedIn.
  • Use Claude or ChatGPT and want to draft and schedule posts from a chat.

Not the right fit if you:

  • Post only on Bluesky and want a free scheduler. Bluesky is on every Postel plan, but there is no free plan.
  • Need to schedule Bluesky videos. Postel supports images only on Bluesky for now.
  • Manage many client brands. Starter, Pro and Team each cover one brand; Agency ($199/month, up to 30 brands) is set up with you directly (talk to us).

What it costs

Bluesky is on every plan, with no charge per network. Scheduling costs no AI credits; writing or rewriting a post costs 1. Starter and Pro start with a 7-day trial for $1. See plans.
