Postel is a cross-posting tool: write a post once and it sends a version that fits X, LinkedIn, Bluesky and Mastodon, as a thread where the network has threads and one post where it doesn't.

We doubled our prices last spring and lost two clients. Revenue still went up. The clients who stayed answer faster, argue less about scope and send us people like them.

If you're scared to raise your prices, remember that your price is a filter. The clients it filters out were the ones costing you the most.

What is cross-posting?
Cross-posting means publishing the same post on more than one social network. Done by hand, it means copying the text into each app, cutting it to fit and posting it several times.
The networks don't take the same post. Their text limits run from a few hundred characters to a few thousand, some have threads and some don't, and each one takes different media. A cross-posting tool handles those differences for you.
Supported networks
| Network | Text limit (characters) | Thread support |
|---|---|---|
| X | 280 (25,000 with X Premium) | Yes |
| 3,000 | No | |
| Bluesky | 300 | Yes |
| Mastodon | 500 or your server's limit | Yes |
| LinkedIn Pages Coming soon | 3,000 | No |
| Instagram Coming soon | Caption up to 2,200 | No |
| Threads Coming soon | 500 | Yes |
| YouTube Coming soon | Description up to 5,000 bytes | No |
Live today:
- X: Posts, threads up to 25 parts, up to 4 images or a video or GIF, polls, X Communities and a first comment.
- LinkedIn: Personal profile posts with up to 20 images, video, document carousels, link previews and a first comment.
- Bluesky: Posts and threads with up to 4 images.
- Mastodon: Posts and threads on any server, with up to 4 images or a video.
Coming soon: LinkedIn company Pages, Instagram, Threads and YouTube are built and submitted for review, with no date yet.
How cross-posting works in Postel
Step 1: Connect your channels
Open Settings > Channels and connect each account. X and LinkedIn use their own sign-in screens, Bluesky takes your handle and an app password, and Mastodon signs you in on your own server.
Step 2: Pick where the post goes
The editor has a row of chips above the text, one per channel. Select the ones this post goes to. New posts start with the channels your last post went to.
Step 3: Write once
Every selected channel shares the text. Postel fits it to each network for free, and a live preview shows what each one will get:
| Your text | What each network gets |
|---|---|
| Fits the network | One post |
| Too long, and the network has threads | A thread, split at paragraphs, then sentences |
| Too long, and you have X Premium | One long post on X |
| Written as a thread, and the network has no threads | The parts merged into one post |
| Too long, and the network has no threads | A note on how many characters it's over |
Step 4: Give a network its own words, if it needs them
Tabs appear only for channels that differ from the shared text. "Customize" gives one network its own text and leaves the others alone. "Rewrite for ..." asks Postel to adapt the post for that network for 1 credit, and the price shows next to the button before you click. It's free on your own AI key (on Pro and up).
Step 5: Schedule or post
Click Schedule or Post now. The confirm step lists every channel and whether it uses the shared text or its own, then each version goes out at the time you picked.

Post to X and LinkedIn at once
X and LinkedIn differ the most of the networks Postel posts to: X allows 280 characters (25,000 with X Premium) and threads, while LinkedIn allows 3,000 characters in one post and hides everything after about 210 behind "see more".
- An X thread becomes one LinkedIn post. The parts are merged, so LinkedIn readers get the whole idea in one place.
- A long LinkedIn post becomes an X thread, or one long post if you have X Premium.
- First comments work on both. On X it's a reply to your own post, on LinkedIn a comment posted under it.
- Postel writes for both. On Pro and up, Plan next week fills your LinkedIn and X slots for the week, and For You turns viral posts in your niche into drafts for both. Any of Postel's post formats can also write both drafts in one click and schedule them with "Schedule both".
Cross-post from Twitter to Bluesky
X and Bluesky are close: 280 and 300 characters, threads on both, up to 4 images on both. The differences Postel handles for you:
- Bluesky counts an emoji as one character, so the editor counts the way Bluesky does.
- Bluesky images must be 1 MB or less, and Bluesky video isn't supported in Postel yet.
- A long X Premium post becomes a thread on Bluesky.
- Bluesky has no first comment, so an X first comment stays on X.

Schedule Mastodon posts
Postel posts to Mastodon on any server. Connect through your server's own sign-in, then schedule posts and threads with up to 4 images or a video. Postel reads your server's character limit when it publishes (500 by default), splits longer text into a thread, and shows favorites, replies, boosts, quotes and followers for the posts it published.

Competitor details come from each vendor's pricing and help pages, checked on October 29 and 30, 2026 (Hypefury pricing). Prices are the lowest each vendor lists, some billed yearly. All five post to Bluesky. Every tool here except Hypefury lists an MCP server for Claude; Hootsuite's is called Perch (Hootsuite MCP).
Of these five, only Postel lists bring-your-own AI key, so writing help can run on your own Anthropic, OpenAI or OpenRouter account (on Pro and up).
Who Postel is for
A good fit if you:
- Post to X, LinkedIn, Bluesky or Mastodon and want each network to get a post that fits it, without rewriting it four times.
- Want drafts that sound like you, written from your own material.
- Want to draft and schedule from Claude or ChatGPT as well as the editor.
Not the right fit if you:
- Need LinkedIn Pages, Instagram, Threads or YouTube today. Those are coming soon in Postel; Buffer and Hootsuite list most of them now.
- Want a free plan. Postel's plans are paid; Starter and Pro start with a 7-day trial for $1.
- Manage many client brands. Starter, Pro and Team each cover one brand; Agency ($199/month, up to 30 brands) is set up with you directly (talk to us).
What it costs
Cross-posting is on every plan, with no charge per network: sharing one text and fitting it to each network is free, and "Rewrite for ..." costs 1 AI credit per network. Starter and Pro start with a 7-day trial for $1. See plans.

Frequently asked questions
Updated Oct 30, 2026.
What is a cross-posting tool?
A tool that publishes one post to several social networks. Postel also fits the post to each one: it splits long text into a thread, merges a thread into one post where the network has no threads, and lets you give any network its own words.
Can I post to X and LinkedIn at the same time?
Yes. Select both channels in the editor, write once and schedule. X gets a single post, a thread, or one long post with X Premium; LinkedIn gets one post. Both go out at the time you pick.
Can I crosspost from Twitter to Bluesky?
Yes. Connect both, select both chips and schedule. Postel counts characters the way Bluesky does and splits anything over 300 characters into a Bluesky thread.
Does Postel cross-post to Mastodon?
Yes, on any Mastodon server. Postel reads your server's character limit when it publishes, 500 by default. More in Schedule Mastodon posts.
Does cross-posting cost AI credits?
No. Sharing the text and fitting it to each network is free. Only "Rewrite for ...", which has Postel adapt the post for one network, costs 1 credit, and it's free on your own AI key, on Pro and up.
Which networks are coming to Postel?
LinkedIn company Pages, Instagram, Threads and YouTube. Each is built and submitted for review; there are no dates yet. The networks table above shows what each will support.
Is posting the same text everywhere bad for reach?
Not by itself. We haven't seen evidence that any of these networks penalizes text posted elsewhere. What costs reach is a poor fit: a post cut off mid-thought, or a tweet that leans on context LinkedIn readers don't have. That's why Postel fits each version, shows a preview of each, and lets you give any network its own words.
