Postiz facts from postiz.com, docs.postiz.com and its GitHub repository, checked on October 30, 2026.

Postiz is a scheduler first: it publishes to many networks and gives developers and AI agents an API, a CLI and an MCP server. Postel is a writing tool first: it learns how you write and drafts your posts before it schedules them.

What a Postel draft looks like

An example draft in For You, Postel's queue of posts it wrote for you. It comes from a note the writer saved, in their own voice, and says nothing the note doesn't.

What is Postiz?

Postiz calls itself "The Agentic Social Media Scheduling Platform". It is open source under AGPL-3.0, with a paid cloud version and a self-hosted one.

  • Networks. Its channel list has about 30, including X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon, Reddit, Pinterest, Telegram, Discord and Google My Business.
  • Writing. An AI copilot in the editor, and a generator that takes a subject, "researches, picks an angle, writes" and drops the posts on your calendar as drafts. You pick a format and a tone: "personal voice or company voice".
  • Images and video. AI images, AI video and clipping that turns a long YouTube video into captioned vertical clips, each with a monthly allowance on Cloud.
  • Automation. Repeated posts, posting from an RSS feed, and "Plugs" that repost, like or comment once a post reaches a number of likes.
  • Agents and developers. Official connectors for Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, a hosted MCP server with 13 tools, a CLI, a public API and webhooks on every plan. Postiz also lists n8n, Make and Zapier.
  • Teams. A shared calendar with Admin and Member roles, and client groups for agencies.

What self-hosting Postiz takes

Self-hosted Postiz has no licence fee. Postiz's own FAQ calls it "a secondary option; the hosted platform is where the agent features ship first." Before you choose it, plan for:

  • A server. The official Docker Compose file runs Postiz with Postgres, Redis and Temporal, which brings its own Postgres and Elasticsearch. Postiz says it tested on a machine with 2 GB of RAM and 2 vCPUs.
  • A developer app per network. For X, LinkedIn and most other networks you register an app on the network's developer portal and put its keys on your instance. Ten platforms, Bluesky among them, need none. Postiz's README warns that approval for Meta, YouTube and TikTok "can take weeks", and Postiz sells help with app approval as an optional extra.
  • Your own AI keys. The copilot, AI images, video and clipping only work once you add keys from an AI provider, which you pay directly.
  • Updates and backups. You run them yourself.

Where Postel is the better fit

Your posts have to sound like you

Postiz writes from a subject in a personal or company tone. Postel starts from you: it reads your own X or LinkedIn posts to learn how you write, and drafts from the topics, product details and opinions you save in its knowledge base. It also turns YouTube videos, articles and files into posts.

You want Claude to draft in your voice, not only schedule

Both have a connector in Claude's directory and a hosted MCP server for ChatGPT and Cursor. Postiz's connector posts, schedules and reads analytics, and its custom MCP link adds images, video and clipping; none of its 13 tools writes post text, so the words come from your assistant. Postel's generate-post tool drafts in your saved voice from your own posts and knowledge base, and create-posts saves up to 25 posts in one call. Add Postel from Claude's connector directory, or use https://www.postel.app/api/mcp in ChatGPT and Cursor. See the LinkedIn MCP server and X MCP server pages.

You want next week written, not a blank calendar

On Pro and up, Plan next week fills the free posting slots of the next 7, 14 or 28 days with X and LinkedIn posts from your own material. You check the plan before Postel writes it. The drafts wait in For You, where you schedule, edit or skip each one. Turn on automatic scheduling and they go straight into their slots instead.

You'd rather not host anything

There is no server, no Docker and no developer app to register. You connect X, LinkedIn, Bluesky and Mastodon through each network's own sign-in screen. LinkedIn connections last 60 days; Postel emails you before yours runs out, and reconnecting takes one click.

You want to bring your own AI key

On Pro and up, Postel can run on your own Anthropic, OpenAI or OpenRouter key. That usage bills to your provider and costs no Postel credits. Postiz Cloud doesn't list bring-your-own-key; self-hosted Postiz needs your own keys.

Where Postiz is the better fit

  • Open source and self-hosting. You can read, change and run the code on your own server. Postel is hosted only.
  • More networks today. Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest, Reddit, Google My Business, Telegram and Discord are on Postiz now. On Postel, LinkedIn company Pages, Instagram, Threads and YouTube are coming soon (submitted for review).
  • Teams. Unlimited team members from the $39 Team plan. Postel has 1 seat on Starter, 3 on Pro and 5 on Team.
  • Visual content. AI images, AI video and clips cut from long YouTube videos. Postel writes text posts, plus LinkedIn image and carousel posts in your brand style on Pro.
  • Developers and no-code. A public API, webhooks, a CLI and n8n, Make and Zapier. Postel has an MCP server and no public API.
  • Many channels on one plan. Up to 100 channels on Ultimate, with client groups. Postel's Starter, Pro and Team plans run one brand; Agency runs up to 30.

Frequently asked questions

Updated Oct 30, 2026.

What is the best Postiz alternative?

For posts in your own voice on X and LinkedIn, drafted from Claude or by Postel itself, with nothing to host, Postel. For many networks on a small budget, Buffer. For automations across nine networks, Blotato. For writing your own posts with a free plan, Typefully. If you need self-hosting or 30 networks, staying on Postiz makes more sense.

Is Postiz free?

The code is free and open source, so self-hosting has no licence fee, but you pay for the server and for any AI provider keys. Postiz Cloud has no free plan: it starts at $29/month after a 7-day free trial.

How much does Postiz cost?

As of October 30, 2026, Postiz Cloud is $29/month for Standard, $39 for Team, $49 for Pro and $99 for Ultimate, or $23, $31, $39 and $79 a month billed yearly.

Can I self-host Postel?

No. Postel is hosted only. If self-hosting is a must, Postiz is the better pick.

Does Postiz have an MCP server?

Yes. Postiz has an official connector in Claude's directory for posting, scheduling and analytics, and a hosted MCP server on every plan, with OAuth or an API key and 13 tools for channels, scheduling, AI images and video, and clipping. Self-hosted installs run it too. None of those tools writes post text. Postel's generate-post tool drafts posts in your voice, learned from your own posts and knowledge base.

Does Postiz write in my voice?

Postiz's post generator offers a tone of "personal voice or company voice". Learning your voice from your own posts is not listed. Postel builds a voice profile from your X or LinkedIn posts and drafts from your knowledge base.

Is Postel cheaper than Postiz?

Month to month, the entry plans cost the same ($29) and the Pro plans the same ($49) a month. Billed yearly, Postel is cheaper: Postel Starter is $19/month against Postiz Standard's $23, and Postel Pro $29/month against Postiz Pro's $39. The trade-off: Postiz plans include more channels and team members, while Postel's include AI writing in your voice on every plan. Self-hosted Postiz has no licence fee, but you pay for the server and the AI keys.
