How to Write LinkedIn Posts With ChatGPT
ChatGPT writes LinkedIn posts that sound like you once it has your own posts to imitate and one specific thing to say; ask it cold and you get the same polished, empty post as everyone else. Set that up once in a ChatGPT Project, and connect Postel if you want ChatGPT to schedule the post to your LinkedIn profile after you approve it.
Why ChatGPT's LinkedIn posts all sound the same
Ask "write a LinkedIn post about leadership" and ChatGPT has nothing to go on but every LinkedIn post it has seen. So it averages them: a dramatic one-line opener, a short list, a lesson, and a question for the comments. Readers spot it in a second.
So give ChatGPT what it can't know:
- How you write. Five to ten of your own posts, pasted in or stored in a Project.
- What actually happened. A number, a quote, a decision, a mistake. One is enough.
- Who it's for. "Founders hiring their first salesperson" writes a different post than "people on LinkedIn".
A ChatGPT prompt for LinkedIn posts
If the draft is close, edit with one instruction at a time: "Shorter opening", "Drop the last paragraph", "Less formal, like a message to a colleague".
ChatGPT prompts for common LinkedIn posts
- From a win: "We got [result] by [what you did]. Write a post that leads with the result, then the one thing we did differently. Keep my numbers exactly."
- From a mistake: "Write about the time we [mistake]. What it cost, what we changed. No silver lining unless I gave you one."
- From a podcast or talk: "Here's the transcript of my talk: [paste]. Find the one idea someone could use tomorrow and write a post about only that."
- Repurpose an X post: "Turn this X post into a LinkedIn post for [reader]. Keep my wording where you can and add the context a LinkedIn reader needs: [paste]."
- A comment-worthy opinion: "My view: [opinion]. My reason: [example]. Write it plainly, without 'unpopular opinion'."
Set it up once in a ChatGPT Project
Pasting your posts into every chat gets old. Create a Project called LinkedIn, add a file with your best posts and a few lines about your audience, and put the rules from the prompt above in the project instructions. Chats inside the project start from that context.
Custom instructions (Settings > Personalization) work too, but they apply to every chat, not just LinkedIn, and project instructions override them. A Project is the cleaner home for your voice.
Words to cut from ChatGPT's drafts
A few patterns give an AI draft away. Ask ChatGPT to remove them, or do it yourself:
- "In today's fast-paced world", "game-changer", "unlock", "delve"
- "Here's the thing:" and "Let that sink in."
- a list of three where one point would do
- every sentence on a line of its own
- "What do you think? Let me know in the comments"
Read the post out loud before you post it. Anything you'd never say, rewrite.
Post from ChatGPT without copy and paste
Copying the draft into LinkedIn is fine for one post. If you post every week and your workspace is on ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu, connect Postel as a custom MCP server. Then ChatGPT can save the draft in Postel and, when you say "schedule it for Tuesday at 8:30am", post it to your personal LinkedIn profile at that time. Scheduling and publishing need a paid plan or the trial. On Plus or Pro, ChatGPT can't add a server that posts, so paste the draft into Postel instead.
Postel can also write the post itself, in the voice it learned from your own LinkedIn posts, so you don't paste samples at all. Setup: how to connect ChatGPT to LinkedIn.
Write LinkedIn posts in your voice from ChatGPT, and schedule them
Postel learns how you write, drafts posts in your voice and publishes them to X, LinkedIn, Bluesky and Mastodon on schedule. Use it on its own or from Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor.

Frequently asked questions
Updated Oct 30, 2026.
Can ChatGPT write LinkedIn posts?
Yes. It writes them well when you give it your own posts as examples and a real detail to write about, and badly when you don't.
What's a good ChatGPT prompt for LinkedIn posts?
One with your own posts as examples, what actually happened, who the reader is, and LinkedIn's format: an opening that works before "see more", short paragraphs, no hashtags. The prompt above has all of it.
Can ChatGPT post to LinkedIn directly?
Not by itself. On ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu, with Postel added as a custom MCP server, ChatGPT can schedule or publish to your personal LinkedIn profile after you confirm.
Will people know it was written with ChatGPT?
They notice generic phrasing, not the tool. A post with your own detail, in your own rhythm, reads as yours. Edit anything you wouldn't say.
ChatGPT or Claude for LinkedIn posts?
Either works if you give it your posts as examples. Use the one you already pay for. Claude users can follow how to write LinkedIn posts with Claude.
How long should a ChatGPT LinkedIn post be?
LinkedIn allows 3,000 characters. Ask for 900 to 1,500 and cut from there. The opening line matters most, because LinkedIn hides the rest behind "see more" after about 210 characters.
What does Postel cost?
$1 for 7 days, then from $29 a month. Cancel anytime. The MCP server for ChatGPT is included in every plan.
