OpenClaw for Social Media: Post to X and LinkedIn

OpenClaw can post to X or LinkedIn through a logged-in browser or your password, but that breaks often and puts your account at risk. Connect Postel's MCP server instead. Your agent can then look up posts that did well on X in your niche, write your version in your voice, and schedule it to X, LinkedIn, Bluesky and Mastodon through each network's official API.

You ask from whatever chat app you already use with OpenClaw, and you decide whether it only drafts or can also schedule and publish.

What your OpenClaw agent can do with Postel

Postel gives OpenClaw 17 tools. These are the ones you'll use most:

You ask forToolWhat happens
What's working in your nichesearch-viral-tweetsFinds high-performing X posts on a topic in Postel's library, with links and view counts. No sign-in needed.
A post or thread in your voicegenerate-postPostel writes it from your voice profile, built from your own X or LinkedIn posts, and saves a draft (1 AI credit).
A post OpenClaw wrotecreate-postSaves the text as a draft, with images or a video from a public URL (no credits).
A week of postscreate-postsSaves up to 25 posts in one call and schedules the ones with a date.
A time slotschedule-post, get-scheduleSchedules a draft, or reads your weekly posting slots.
Post it nowpublish-postPublishes a draft right away.

It doesn't read your feed or messages, reply, like or follow. On LinkedIn it posts to your personal LinkedIn profile. The full list is on the Postel MCP server page.

Why not a browser or your own API keys

People try three ways to get OpenClaw posting:

  • A logged-in browser. It breaks when the page changes, and LinkedIn's User Agreement doesn't allow bots or automated access to its site.
  • Your own X developer app. You need a developer account and your own keys, it covers X only, and OpenClaw still writes in its own voice, not yours.
  • An MCP server like Postel's. OpenClaw calls Postel's tools, Postel posts through each network's official API, and OpenClaw never sees your passwords.

How to connect OpenClaw to Postel

Step 1: Create a Postel account and connect your networks

Sign up for Postel, then connect the accounts you post to under Settings > Channels. Postel builds your voice profile from your own posts.

Step 2: Add the server and sign in

OpenClaw only changes MCP servers while the Gateway is stopped. Stop it with openclaw gateway stop, then run these on the machine where it runs:

Terminal
openclaw mcp add postel \
  --url https://www.postel.app/api/mcp \
  --transport streamable-http \
  --auth oauth
openclaw mcp login postel
openclaw mcp doctor postel --probe
openclaw gateway start

The login command prints a link. Open it, sign in to Postel and approve. The doctor command checks that the server answers and the tools load, and the last line starts the Gateway again so your agent can use the Postel tools.

On a server without a browser, open the link on your laptop, and if the browser can't reach the server afterwards, finish with the --code command OpenClaw prints. Or use an API key (step 3). To add the server without stopping the Gateway, use OpenClaw's Control UI.

Step 3 (optional): Use an API key instead

On a server without a browser, an API key is simpler. Create one in Postel under Settings > API Keys (keys start with pstl_). Add POSTEL_API_KEY=pstl_... to the environment the Gateway starts with, then, with the Gateway stopped:

Terminal
openclaw mcp set postel '{
  "url": "https://www.postel.app/api/mcp",
  "transport": "streamable-http",
  "headers": {
    "Authorization": "Bearer ${POSTEL_API_KEY}"
  }
}'

The single quotes keep ${POSTEL_API_KEY} as a reference, so OpenClaw reads the key from the Gateway's environment and it never sits in your config file.

Step 4 (optional): Add the writing skill

The Postel writing skill tells your agent how to use the tools well: look at what's working first, keep to each network's limits, and ask before scheduling. From your OpenClaw workspace folder, run:

Terminal
npx skills add robinfaraj/postel-mcp \
  --skill postel-writing \
  --agent openclaw

It installs into the workspace's skills folder. If you'd rather not run the MCP server, install postel-api instead: it calls Postel's REST API with curl and your POSTEL_API_KEY.

Things to ask your agent

Send these from Telegram, WhatsApp, Slack or wherever you talk to OpenClaw:

  • "What's done well on X about cold email? Show me the top five and why they worked."
  • "Write my take on the second one for LinkedIn and for X: we stopped using templates and our reply rate went up. Save both as drafts."
  • "Schedule the LinkedIn one for Tuesday at 9am my time and the X one in my next free slot."
  • "Write an X thread from this blog post and add the cover image." (Images and videos need a public URL. Postel can't take files straight from the chat.)
  • "What's scheduled for next week?"

Run it every week without posting by itself

OpenClaw's automations can send your agent a prompt on a schedule. A Monday-morning job such as "find three high-performing posts in my niche that I haven't written about yet, write my version of each as a Postel draft and send me the links" gives you a week of drafts to review in Postel.

For a run nobody watches, add Postel a second time without the tools that schedule or publish (schedule-post, create-posts and publish-post). --include lists the tools OpenClaw gets from this copy. With the Gateway stopped:

Terminal
openclaw mcp add postel-drafts \
  --url https://www.postel.app/api/mcp \
  --transport streamable-http \
  --auth oauth \
  --include 'search-viral-tweets,get-x-profiles,list-brands,get-brand-sources,get-schedule,get-usage,list-posts,get-post,create-post,update-post,generate-post,refine-post'
openclaw mcp login postel-drafts
openclaw gateway start

Use postel-drafts in the automation and the full postel server when you're in the chat. The drafts wait in Postel until you approve or schedule them.

Have your agent find what's working in your niche and write your version

Postel finds posts that did well in your niche, writes your version in your voice and schedules it to X, LinkedIn, Bluesky and Mastodon. You can use it on its own or from OpenClaw, Claude or any other MCP client.

Frequently asked questions

Can OpenClaw post to X (Twitter)?

Yes, through an MCP server. With Postel connected, OpenClaw can save, schedule and publish X posts with images or video, and Postel can write X threads for it. Postel posts through X's official API, so you don't need an X developer account.

Can OpenClaw post to LinkedIn?

Yes. With Postel connected, OpenClaw can draft, schedule and publish posts to your personal LinkedIn profile, with images, a video and an optional first comment.

Does OpenClaw need my X or LinkedIn password?

No. You connect your accounts once in Postel. OpenClaw only gets the Postel tools, signed in with OAuth or a pstl_ API key that you can revoke any time.

Will OpenClaw post without asking me?

Only if it has the tools to. With the full postel server, the agent can schedule or publish whenever it decides to, within your OpenClaw tool policy. To make sure it can't, connect the draft-only postel-drafts server from the weekly setup above. It has no schedule-post, create-posts or publish-post. If your Postel workspace requires approval, scheduled posts also wait for an owner or admin to approve them.

Which networks can OpenClaw post to with Postel?

X, LinkedIn, Bluesky and Mastodon. Each post is written for one network, so ask for a version for each and Postel saves them separately.

What does it cost?

$1 for 7 days, then from $29 a month. Cancel anytime. The MCP server is included in every plan. search-viral-tweets works without an account. When Postel writes a post it uses 1 AI credit; when OpenClaw writes the text and Postel only saves it, it uses none.
