What Hermes can do with Postel

It doesn't read your feed or messages, reply, like or follow. On LinkedIn it posts to your personal LinkedIn profile. On YouTube and TikTok, the agent saves the video post as a draft, and you choose the settings those networks ask for on every post, such as title and privacy, in Postel's editor before it's scheduled. Why not Hermes's built-in X skill

Hermes ships an xurl skill for X. It posts through X's own command-line tool, so you need your own X developer app (a client ID and secret from developer.x.com), it covers X only, and Hermes writes in its own voice. Hermes has no built-in skill that posts to LinkedIn. Postel posts to every network you connect in it, through its own connection, in the voice it learned from your posts. How to connect Hermes to Postel

Step 1: Create a Postel account and connect your networks

Sign up for Postel, then connect the accounts you post to under Settings > Channels. Postel builds your voice profile from your own posts.

Step 2: Add the server and sign in

Hermes opens Postel's sign-in in your browser and keeps the token in ~/.hermes/mcp-tokens/. Check that the tools load with hermes mcp test postel. If a tool later asks you to sign in again, run hermes mcp login postel.

Step 3 (optional): Use an API key instead

On a server without a browser, an API key is simpler. Create one in Postel under Settings > API Keys (keys start with pstl_), add POSTEL_API_KEY=pstl_... to ~/.hermes/.env, and add the server to ~/.hermes/config.yaml:

Hermes fills in ${POSTEL_API_KEY} from ~/.hermes/.env, so the key never sits in your config.

Step 4 (optional): Add the writing skill

The Postel writing skill tells Hermes how to use the tools well: look at what's working first, keep to each network's limits, and confirm the text, network and time with you before scheduling.

The Postel plugin and the ClawHub skill

• Hermes plugin. Postel's plugin adds the server and the writing skill in one step, and marks the server as untrusted, so Hermes asks before every tool that isn't read-only and, by default, blocks them in unattended runs. It's submitted to the Hermes plugin catalog; once it's listed, hermes plugins install postel replaces steps 2 and 4. Until then, the steps above give you the same tools. Source: the plugin.

Run it every week without posting by itself

Hermes can run a prompt on a schedule with its cron jobs. A Monday job such as "find three posts in my niche that did well and that I haven't written about, write my version of each as a Postel draft and send me the links" gives you a week of drafts to review in Postel.

If you installed the Postel plugin, its server is marked untrusted, so a cron job can't save drafts until you allow the tools it needs: answer Always once for generate-post and create-post in a chat, or set trust: full on the postel server in ~/.hermes/config.yaml.

For a run nobody watches, take away the tools that schedule or publish. Run hermes mcp configure postel and switch off schedule-post, create-posts and publish-post. The drafts wait in Postel until you approve or schedule them.
