n8n MCP for Social Media: Let an AI Agent Post to X and LinkedIn
To let an n8n AI Agent post to social media, add an MCP Client Tool node to the agent and point it at Postel's MCP server with a Postel API key. The agent can then look up posts that did well in your niche, write your version in your own voice, and save, schedule or publish it to X, LinkedIn, Bluesky and Mastodon. For fixed steps without an agent, self-hosted n8n can also use Postel's community node.
Three ways n8n and MCP fit together
People mean different things by "n8n MCP", so it helps to pick the right one first:
| What you want | What to use |
|---|---|
| Your n8n AI Agent uses another app's tools | MCP Client Tool node, under the agent's tools |
| Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor run one of your workflows | Instance-level MCP: Settings > Instance-level MCP, then mark each workflow Available in MCP |
| Build your own MCP server out of n8n nodes | MCP Server Trigger node |
All three work on n8n Cloud and self-hosted n8n.
For social posts, the first one is the one you want: Postel is the MCP server, and your agent is the client. Sources: MCP Client Tool, instance-level MCP, MCP Server Trigger (checked November 4, 2026).
Connect an n8n AI Agent to Postel
Step 1: Create a Postel account and an API key
Sign up for Postel, connect the accounts you post to under Settings > Channels, then create a key under Settings > API Keys. Keys start with pstl_. Postel builds your voice profile from your own posts.
Step 2: Add the MCP Client Tool node
Open your workflow with the AI Agent node, click + under Tool, and add MCP Client Tool. Paste this as the Endpoint:
https://www.postel.app/api/mcp
Then set:
- Server Transport: HTTP Streamable
- Authentication: Bearer Auth, with your
pstl_key as the token - Tools to Include: Selected, then pick the tools in step 3
Step 3: Choose what the agent may do
Pick the tools to match how much you trust the run:
- Drafts only (good for anything on a schedule):
search-viral-tweets,list-brands,get-x-profiles,generate-post,create-post,list-posts. The agent writes and saves drafts; you schedule them in Postel. - Schedule too: add
get-scheduleandschedule-post. - Publish right away: add
publish-post. Only do this when someone reads the output first.
Leave out create-posts, which saves and schedules up to 25 posts in one call, unless you want bulk scheduling.
Step 4: Give the agent a job
Put something like this in the agent's prompt, or let a Schedule Trigger send it every Monday:
Find three X posts that did well this week about B2B pricing that I haven't written about. For each, write my take for LinkedIn with generate-post and save it as a draft. Reply with the draft links.
What the agent can do with Postel
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
search-viral-tweets | Finds X posts that did well on a topic, with links and view counts |
generate-post | Writes a post or X thread in your voice and saves a draft (1 AI credit) |
create-post, create-posts | Saves text the agent wrote as drafts, with images or a video from a public URL |
schedule-post, publish-post | Schedules a draft or publishes it now |
list-posts, get-schedule | Reads your drafts, scheduled posts and posting slots |
It doesn't read your feed or messages, reply, like or follow. On LinkedIn it posts to your personal LinkedIn profile. All 17 tools: Postel MCP server.
Without an agent: Postel's community node
If your workflow always does the same steps, a regular node is simpler and costs no model calls. Postel's community node, n8n-nodes-postel (version 0.1.1, MIT, source), has:
- Viral Post: Find, Get, and Write My Take (Postel writes your version of a viral X post)
- Post: Create, Generate in My Voice, Schedule, Publish Now, Get, Get Many
- Channel: Get Many
- Postel Trigger: new viral post in my niche, post published, post failed, draft ready
n8n hasn't verified it yet, and n8n Cloud only installs verified community nodes, so for now it works on self-hosted n8n: Settings > Community Nodes > Install, enter n8n-nodes-postel, and confirm. On n8n Cloud, use the MCP Client Tool setup above, or call Postel's REST API with the HTTP Request node.
Good to know
- Scheduling needs a paid plan. Saving drafts works without one; scheduling and publishing need one: $1 for 7 days, then from $29 a month. Cancel anytime.
- AI credits.
generate-postand Write My Take use 1 AI credit each. When your agent writes the text and Postel only saves it, no credits are used. - Approvals. If your Postel workspace requires approval, scheduled posts wait for an owner or admin.
- Threads. Ask
generate-postfor a thread, or put a line with only---between parts when you save one yourself.
Give your n8n agent a social media tool that writes in your voice
Postel finds posts that did well in your niche, writes your version in your voice and schedules it to X, LinkedIn, Bluesky and Mastodon. Use it on its own or from n8n, Claude or any other MCP client.

Frequently asked questions
Updated Nov 4, 2026.
Does n8n support MCP?
Yes, three ways: the MCP Client Tool node lets an AI Agent use another server's tools, the MCP Server Trigger node turns your own nodes into an MCP server, and instance-level MCP lets Claude, ChatGPT and other clients run workflows you mark as available.
How do I post to LinkedIn from n8n?
With an AI Agent, add an MCP Client Tool node pointed at Postel's MCP server and let the agent call create-post and schedule-post. Without an agent, self-hosted n8n can use Postel's community node. Either way Postel posts through LinkedIn's official API to your personal LinkedIn profile.
Can n8n post to X (Twitter) without an X developer account?
Yes, through Postel. n8n's built-in X node needs your own X developer app; Postel's server and node post through Postel's connection, so you only connect your X account once in Postel.
Is the Postel n8n node available on n8n Cloud?
Not yet. It's on npm but hasn't been verified by n8n, and n8n Cloud only installs verified community nodes. The MCP Client Tool setup works on n8n Cloud today.
What does it cost?
The MCP server and the node come with every Postel plan. $1 for 7 days, then from $29 a month. Cancel anytime.
